Balinese Experience is Bali’s leading Balinese Owned Adventure Company. An exciting and dynamic family business, Balinese Experience was established in 1995 to provide locally owned and operated soft adventures with the highest international standards of safety, training and conservation. Balinese Experience began as Ayung River Rafting-the island’s 1st locally owned rafting company-offering the Ayung River’s longest white water adventure, jungle trekking and mountain biking. Mountain biking is offered in the stunning local village (can be combined with rafting) and the exciting Kintamani Volcano and Jatiluwih Rice Paddy rides.

In 2004, working with the Government in aid of elephant conservation, Bali Elephant Camp was established to help care for and promote the plight of Sumatran elephants. Bali Elephant Camp has 9 Sumatran elephants, who along with their ‘mahouts’ (carers) have become ambassadors for their brothers and sisters in Sumatra. Come and ride one today-our friends in conservation say we have some of the healthiest, happiest elephants they’ve ever seen!

And best of all-that place is our own village. Alit Yudha, the company’s founder, had a dream to improve the social conditions in the surrounding villages by encouraging tourism. When the company started it had only a handful of people, and now it contributes to employing up to 200 people in and around the beautiful location.

A True Balinese Experience is just north of the Sangeh Monkey Forest, across the river from Ubud in the village of Carang Sari. It’s a scenic drive passing through lots of local life. Our location is perched on the edge of the Ayung River-over 20 hectares of lush fertile grounds including rice paddies, jungles and small plots of cocoa and chillies. The views are amazing-this is definitely one of the most beautiful places in Bali.

Bali Elephant Camp
Pass through unworldly beauty-natural rice paddies, quaint Balinese villages, temples and local markets-on the scenic drive to Bali Elephant Camp, located in the historic village of Carangsari, birth place of Bali’s national hero ‘Ngurah Rai’ and only a short distance from the Sangeh monkey forest. Bali Elephant Camp is situated between the rice paddies, jungle, and the Ayung River (where we also do white water rafting) and is one of the most natural places in Bali.

The elephants come from Sumatra, and as part of our efforts to conserve this magnificent species, we’d like you to learn more about them, go trekking and experience life with our incredible elephants! By riding our elephants you help us help other elephants in Sumatra by providing funds for food and land to make sure their homes remain protected.

After enjoying the drive, be welcomed to Bali Elephant Camp with a refreshing welcome drink at the ‘Trunk’n’Mahout’ valley-view café. Watch the elephants enjoy their morning or afternoon bath and then meet our Head Mahout to learn about the daily life of a Sumatran elephant as the elephants get saddled-up for the ‘Explorer’ or ‘Adventurer’ treks. Bali Elephant Camp Programs:

1. The Adventurer Short Trek
   If you want to become friends with a great Sumatran elephant, then try our shorter Adventurer Trek! You get to experience the beautiful landscape of our camp as well as venturing out for a trek along the edge of the valley… The views are incredible, so bring your camera! You may also get to see monkeys and tropical birds in their natural habitat. Look down at the raging Ayung River and discover how much fun riding an elephant can be. Our elephant will also show you his/her pool as he wades through the water to cool off from the hot sun. Feel free to relax and enjoy lunch at the ‘Trunk’n’Mahour’ café at the end of the trek and enjoy the stunning valley scenery.
2. The Explorer Full Trek
   Be prepared to see more of the real Bali from high up on your Sumatran elephant! Pass through tropical plantations of mango, jackfruit, durian, coffee, bamboo and coconuts. Look out for birds and monkeys as you pass through the jungle and see how other animals such as pigs, cows and buffalos play a part in the daily lives of farmers and their families as you enter the small local village of Buanga. Pass by the village temple and witness daily life far away from the tourist areas. A highlight on the trip is to be invited into the home of a local farmer where you will enjoy a drink of fresh coconut. This is such a unique and enjoyable trek as you look down at glimpses of the river and trek though unspoiled rice paddies on your return to the Camp. You and your elephant become a part of the real Balinese experience. When you return to the camp enjoy a delicious western or Balinese 3 course menu at the ‘Trunk’n’Mahout’ valley-view café and relax in the idyllic surroundings.
